If you will be travelling to Geneva then the Ramada Encore Geneva is a great choice

offers a super choice of business and leisure facilities.
An ideal location:
Visitor attractions
The International Museum of the Reformation has access for disabled visitors as does the Museum of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Toblerone Trail
At 10km in length, the Toblerone Trail is a great outdoor experience. It runs through several nature reserves and also takes is some military fortifications along the way. Most of the trail runs alongside streams and it provides a good opportunity to take a picnic. The trail crosses the Gland golf course and it is this section of the trail that is suitable for wheelchair users, as is the Villa Rose (or Pink Villa) and the beach (access to the water). Along the trail you will find dotted, several fun informative boards.

Those in a wheelchair or who are disabled can have a great time enjoying the great outdoors in the summer months . In the Tirol region there are 12 handbike and 19 hiking trails that have all been tested by wheelchair users and rated according to their difficulty. Innsbruck has a wonderfully designed trail around the Sill river which is very suitable for the disabled traveller.
The trail has been designed so that the blind or partially sighted can walk along the trail independently, safely and without escort. Along the trail you can find touchable image points which provide information about the nature in the area and the river Sill. The blind and partially sighted are able to pick up a copy of a brochure in Braille free from the TBSV, The Innsbruck tourism office

If you know of an other cities that have made a real effort to cater for travellers with a disability please let us know and leave a comment to this Travel Blog

While making some research on Innsbruck I have been most impressed by their tourist information website and the pages that they have titled ‘Innsbruck without handicap’.

The Innsbruck tourist information team has even thoughtfully put together a sightseeing tour that you can do on your own and this is suitable for wheelchair users and people with walking disabilities.I suggest that if you are a traveller with disabilities that you visit the Innsbruck info website and print this tour to take with you to make sure you enjoy and get the most out of your trip.

Innsbruck is home to a trail which was originally set up for the blind. This trail runs alongside the river Sill and is also wheel chair accessible. Because the trail is accessible to everyone it can be enjoyed by everyone.

Visitors to Innsbruck who have a disability are also able to spin the wheel at the casino which is fully accessible for wheelchairs and lifts link all the floors. The casino is open from 3pm and the Jackpot casino open from 11pm

When it comes to booking your accommodation you will need to do a little research and check how ‘accessible’ the hotel really is.

A) Does ‘accessible’ mean that spaces, furniture and doors within a room have been thoughtfully designed and there are grab handles fitted in the toilet/bathroom. The bathroom should be suitably adapted
B) Are all parts of the hotel i.e. reception, restaurant/bar areas, saunas, solariums, swimming pools accessible to disabled guests?
C) Are lift doors wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair?

And, if the hotels can provide details about heights, widths and depths for doors, light switches, sinks, baths, toilets, emergency alarms and elevators.

While gtahotels.com is not currently geared to provide all this information unless it is requested from customers we are planning to compile a list of hotels in certain cities that are accessible to disabled guests and the type of facilities that they can offer.
If any travellers have any feedback as to what you would like us to offer for disabled travellers please leave a comment to this Blog.
