My Travels in May

Well, what an unforgettable month…. May was spent travelling to Europe.

We had budgeted well in advance for our trip and everything was pre booked including our city tours so we only had to plan for spending money.

As we were only able to spend at the most 3 days in each city we really wanted to get the most out of the cities and we also wanted to travel a little outside of the cities where possible….

                                                                            London

Our first stop was London where we had booked a Full day budget tour so we could get our bearings . At 8.45 in the morning we joined the tour bus. Handed in our voucher and that was it. We particularly enjoyed the walk over the
Millenium bridge and took some great photographs of Big Ben and St Pauls Cathedral.

Budget London Tour – Full Day London Experience
http://www.gtahotels.com/activities/productdetails.php/SIC.3858EE063.htm
For our 3rd day in London we had booked a 11 hour tour because we wanted to see the surrounding countryside and
this tour gave us that opportunity. We saw so much in such a short time and we would not have been able to do
this on our own. FromWindsor castle we travelled onwards to Wiltshire and Stonehenge. From Stonehenge we drove to
Bath and were in awe at the Georgian Crescents ( I dont know how many times I have watched the film Oliver starring Arnold Finney as Fagan and I felt like singing as we walked through the Crescent that was used in the film. While it rained on and off, being on the tour bus meant that we still enjoyed the day to the full

Windsor Castle, Stonehenge and Georgian Bath
http://www.gtahotels.com/activities/productdetails.php/SIC.3858EE021.htm

                                                                            Paris

Paris was everything we had imagined and we will return there to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary!
On our 2nd day in the city we took a Full day tour to Mont Saint Michael. The 4 and a half hour drive took us through Normandy until we reached the rocky islet. We had a guided tour of the Abbey and were able to spend a comfortable 4 hours there before returning to Paris in the early evening.

Full Day Tour to Mont Saint Michel
http://www.gtahotels.com/activities/productdetails.php/SIC.2050MS.htm

We also booked the combined “Paris Express” tour and cruise on the River Seine tour. It was a great way to explore the city and in just 3 hours!
Paris City Tour and River Seine Cruise
http://www.gtahotels.com/activities/productdetails.php/SIC.2050_PC.htm

                                                                                   Berlin

Feeling energetic in Berlin we were happy that we had pre booked a bike tour. It was great fun and a fabulous way to see parts of the city that would otherwise have remained hidden to us. We also made some news friends on the tour and spent that evening with them in the Mitte area where there are plenty of bars.

Half Day Berlin City Morning Bike Tour
http://www.gtahotels.com/activities/productdetails.php/SIC.3933STDBIKE.htm

Our trip out of the city was to the city of Potsdam, the Brandenburg State Capital and former centre of Prussia.
Potsdam is UNESCO world heritage listed and is renowned for its parks, museums and stately palaces. The tour included a guided visit to Sanssouci Palace and its gardens.

Potsdam and Sanssouci Palace Tour from Berlin
http://www.gtahotels.com/activities/productdetails.php/SIC.3080BBSPOT.htm

                                                                                 Prague

Our last destination was Prague. We felt that Prague would be best discovered on foot so we had booked a 3 hour walking tour of the city. The Lesser Town was particularly attractive and it was nice to have the guide as it meant we didn’t get lost! We were glad to have booked a walking tour rather than a coach of this city.

Historic Prague Walking Tour including King’s Route and Charles Bridge
http://www.gtahotels.com/activities/productdetails.php/SIC.2190CEDT3.htm
Obviously we couldnt discover outside of Prage on foot so we had our voucher all ready for a trip to Admire Castle, Ceske Budejovice and the Baroque style village, Holasovice. This was a great trip and certainly took us to some of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.

What a great city to visit, Miami and Miami Beach really have it all. During the days you can relax on the
beach or visit local attractions such as the popular Parrot Island Jungle.

If you want to be where all the action is then stay on South beach. North beach is a little quieter.

The Everglades are within easy reach if you fancy some crocodile Dundee excitement!

MIAMI TRIVIA

1. Miami has recently been ranked as “America’s Cleanest City” according to Forbes magazine.
The city has good year-round good air quality, open green spaces, clean drinking water, clean streets
and throughout the city you will find recycling programs.
2 In North Miami Beach you will find Americas oldest building. This is The Monastery of St. Bernard de Clairvaux. It was originally built during 1144 in Sacramenia. However in 1925 an American brought the monastery and shipped it back to the United States. It remained in storage in New York for 26 years until it was again brought in 1952. The monastery was at this time reassembled in a wooded preserve nestled along Snake Creek in downtown North Miami Beach, where it has become a popular and beautiful tourist attraction.

3. No visit to Miami is complete without a visit to the Seaquarium which was once home to televisions most famous
dolphin, Flipper.

TIP
During your stay in Miami don’t miss out on a Biscayne Bay Cruise where you will have the chance to see
where many celebrities live as well as enjoying the beautiful Miami skyline

Its nearly June and Strawberries and cream time!

What better time to visit London than during Wimbledon fortnight? Strawberries and cream don’t come any sweeter than the great hotels and rates we have lined up for you!

Before you hit the centre court check out our great hotel deals, perfect for a overnight stay or longer. Wimbledon is easily accessible from Central London by public transport and then its just a pleasant stroll through old Wimbledon Village to the main attraction, the centre court!

Here is a bit of London trivia for you

1. The Millenium Bridge is a pedestrian bridge in London and was nicknamed the Wobbly Bridge because during its first few days in operation, the bridge swayed and probably left some pedestrians crossing the bridge feeling a little green! The bridge was very briefly closed for some modifications and then re-opened again….minus the wobbles!!

2. While the United Kingdom is a member of the European Union, they have still not embrassed the EUR, so the currency still used in the UK is GB Pound

3. If you are a shopaholic then you will most certainly want to hear for the famous Oxford Street which stretches one and a half mile from Marble Arch to Tottenham Court road

TIP!During your stay in London, put the icing on the cake and enjoy a traditional cream Tea at Grosvenor House

This is one place that I have not ridden but would dearly love to, Hype Park.

Hyde Park is one of London’s most popular and largest open spaces and has two routes or bridle paths open to riders and their horse.

Can you imagine any better place to ride than here and follow in the hoof steps of King Henry VIII, when in the 1500’s he and his court would have galloped across the park in pursuit or deer and wild boar.

These days the rides are much more sedate and undoubtedly more comfortable. Instead of passing deer you are more likely to pass a double Decker bus stuck in traffic as you canter along the outskirts of the park.

Tempted? Then you can per book an hours ride in Hyde Park. Boots and hard hat are provided for your convenience

http://www.gtahotels.com/activities/productdetails.php/SIC.3858EE320.htm

Aegean Airlines will start flying from Stanstead to Athens from the 15th may 2008Daily flights will depart from Stanstead at 10.20 and 20.00 while the flights from Athens depart at 07.30 and 17.10. The flight times are great especially if you plan to visit Athens for a long weekend.
After you have touched down at Athens, then you will find that getting to the city is no trouble at all, this is because Athens is one of the few cities that has great public transport access to and from the airport.

There are six bus routes that connect the suburbs of Athens and Piraeus with the airport
These buses drop passengers off at the departure area and depart from the airport at the Arrivals area, exits 4 and 5.

The KTEL Express service drops passengers from different parts of the ciry at the Departures area and leaves from the Arrivals level between Exits 2 and 3, opposite the Airport Hotel.

If you don’t fancy the road then the Metro line 3 connects the airport with the city.

You also have the option of the Suburban railway which connects the airport and Athens central station ( Larissis station ) and the Port of Pireaus.

Finally you have the option of taxi or even hire car. Phew! Well done Athens

So now you have reached the city you may need some suggestions on what to see and do. Let’s start the list with undoubtedly the most visited attraction in Athens and one that no visit to the city is complete without visiting.

The Acropolis and its Parthenon.
The Plaka. This is the oldest part of Athens and is a maze of winding streets at the bottom of the Parthenon where you will find tavernas, shops and also a children’s museum
Lycabettus Hill. From the top of Lycabettus Hill you will get a fantastic view of the city. To get to the top you can take the funicular.
Piraeus. This is the biggest port in Greece and from here you can take some very pleasant walks including Kastella where you will find some beautiful houses and some great views as the area is on hill. Why not enjoy a glass of Ouzo and some seafood at one of the taverns in Microlimano
Cape Sounion and the Temple of Poseidon. This is one of the most favourite tours in Athens and you can pre book at discounted rates through us

It’s run by a consortium of French railways (SNCF), Belgian railways (SNCB) and Eurostar UK Ltd. Eurostar does not carry cars, just foot passengers.
Eurostar has a choice of standard of first class. If you prefer First class then you will be served a hot airline-style meal with wine and/or champagne which is included in the fare.
Standard fare passengers can make use of the café buffets to purchase their refreshments which can either be taken in the buffet bar or at your seat.
Travelling with Eurostar means that you don’t need to check our baggage in but will keep all your bags with you and there is also no weight limitation. Just remember that you will need to make sure that you can carry everything!
Your journey from London ends at the Gare du Nord
If you are only in Paris for a short time then you will want to see as much as possible. So why not take a technology driven tour with a difference? You can whiz around Paris on a Segway Tour. The trendiest technology to hit the City and an innovative way to see Paris in 4-5 hours. A personalized service is guaranteed, as tours are limited to 8 people. When you find yourself in Paris you must consider gliding on a Segway – it’s the most fun you’re likely to have standing up!

The Segway is the first of its kind – a self-balancing, personal transportation device that’s designed to operate in any pedestrian environment. Since their introduction, the day and night Segway tours have regularly sold out. It’s new, it’s cool and loads of fun!
The 4-5 hour tours are limited to 8 clients with 1 guide so you can count on a great, intimate experience. Discover what it’s like to be a Parisian celebrity as everyone, and we mean everyone, turns to watch you glide by!
Each tour begins with a 30 minute “orientation session”. You can practice on the Segways until you feel comfortable and ready to go out and conquer Paris. The Segway is appropriate for virtually anyone aged 12 and older.
