Those in a wheelchair or who are disabled can have a great time enjoying the great outdoors in the summer months . In the Tirol region there are 12 handbike and 19 hiking trails that have all been tested by wheelchair users and rated according to their difficulty. Innsbruck has a wonderfully designed trail around the Sill river which is very suitable for the disabled traveller.
The trail has been designed so that the blind or partially sighted can walk along the trail independently, safely and without escort. Along the trail you can find touchable image points which provide information about the nature in the area and the river Sill. The blind and partially sighted are able to pick up a copy of a brochure in Braille free from the TBSV, The Innsbruck tourism office
If you know of an other cities that have made a real effort to cater for travellers with a disability please let us know and leave a comment to this Travel Blog
